back to black >> funemployment notes

Hello from San Francisco! I wanted to do a quick “check in” post. Today marks my 3rd month of “f”unemployment. For a long time, I have been trying to figure out the next career move and saving as much as I could to take some time off.

During this time, I decided to focus on my passion projects such as Fashion Mews, photography and take a design class on the side.

I have practically put together an independent study MBA, and here are my class notes so far:

1. Work hard: Time is one of the most precious commodities we have. One of my biggest fears was that I’d get really lazy during my time off and not appreciate it. Ironically, I now work harder than ever, pretty much 24/7. It sounds cliché, but finding something you’re excited to wake up to is everything.

2. Meditate: How do you deal with stress? My stress intake has gone up significantly ever since starting Fashion Mews as well as design classes. I had never been very good at managing stress, and needed to do something about it in order to grow as a founder. Abel and I now are meditating on a regular basis which really helps me keep focused and calm in situations.

3. Be genuine & have no f*cks to give: Starting this blog has been life-changing. I’ve experienced outpouring support from incredibly awesome/talented people as well as my first internet trolls. The best of all, it helped me really find my voice and vision. At the end of the day, I learned to always stay true to yourself and sometimes this means having no f*cks to give.

Lastly, for anyone who’s been reading the blog, I’d love to hear your feedback! What can I do better? What posts have you liked so far? What would you like to hear more?

Top (c/0): LeTote  // Jeans: Rag & Bone // Blazer: BCBG (old, similar here and here) // Bag: Proenza Schouler // Shoes: Rag & Bone (old, similar here) // Socks: Nordstrom (not available online, but get them here) // Ring: Alexander McQueen // Watch: Larsson & Jennings

About the outfit: It has been pretty chilly in SF lately which made me go back to black. I styled my favorite Rag & Bone distressed jeans with a super cute gray quilted shoulder top from Le Tote which gives a rocker chic vibe. My polka dot socks helped create a more playful look with the monochrome Rag & Bone Harrow booties. I finished the look with my old suit blazer from BCBG.

Thanks for reading & happy Monday! <3
