fasting for beginners

fasting for beginners

We here at Fashion Mews often ask what it means to be a minimalist. It’s not just keeping your style simple. It’s also about simplifying your life and all the stuff that’s in it.

So for the first time, Melis and I did a 24-hour fast from all food and beverage drinks. Fasting for beginners.

Turns out, periodic fasting has a ton of benefits, including:

  • Encouraging weight loss by burning fat first instead of sugar,
  • Speeding up metabolism,
  • Helping balance your hormonal system, removing toxins in your body,
  • Improving brain function,
  • Contributing to self-enlightenment,
  • Clearing skin and acne,

The list goes on. I remember trying out the 30-Hour Famine back home with family. I found it an incredible opportunity to look back at my eating & general living habits while reflecting what “true hunger” is. I’m really fortunate to be able to get healthy food every day.

Fasting is something I want to incorporate into our meditation practice as well. I can go on for hours about both, but we totally recommend trying it out if you’re feeling stuck, seasonal blues, or just unhealthy.

You deserve a reset.

p.s. After dinner, immediately brush your teeth so you’ll get a head-start to the 24-hour fast in case the last couple of hours you start caving in! And if you have to cheat, keep some apple/pineapple juice lying around.

Wow, this is incredible. I’ve fasted before, but not without water, or at least not for that period of time. In the past, when I have fasted without water for even 12 hours, I’ve felt so drained that I just end up sleeping for half the day – but I suppose that’s your body’s way of flushing out toxins!

    • Thanks so much babe! We definitely were drinking water during the fast, otherwise not sure how I’d last that long either. 🙂 Hope you had a great weekend xx

  2. I fast as part of my religion and the benefits are amazing and I feel like people judge it rather giving it a fair go.
I was wondering whether you still drink water or not?

p.s I am so glad I have come across your blog, amazing!
