We were inspired to write this post as we had trouble finding a guide with top things to do in Paris including tips and tricks. Hope this guide will help you plan your next trip to Paris better!
Neighborhoods:
The Marais: Akin to West Village NY, this neighborhood is filled with shops, bars, and a pretty diverse restaurant scene. The pre-revolutionary buildings, cobblestone alleys and the cutest doors are all ready for your Instagram.
Coffee shops:
We wrote an entire article here dedicated to this. But we find coffee shops inherently pick up a lot of the city culture. People watching FTW.
Museums:
Buy tickets online or on your smartphone to skip the long lines. Use coat check (it’s free), and we highly recommend the guided audio tours. You should survey what every floor has and pick out artists you’d want to focus around; there’s too much for just a day. And try to go early/later. We were “off season” but it still felt really crowded.
1. The Lourve: It’s got something for everyone, but the Napoleanic Apartments and Mona Lisa were the highlights for us.
2. Musée d’Orsay: Van Gogh/Post-Impressionist and Impressionist work is what you’re here for. But we even saw American painters like Whistler make it here and their photography exhibit wing, though small, was on point.
3. Notre Dame: If you’re looking for French Gothic architecture, Notre Dame is where it’s at. The interiors are just gorgeous despite the vandalism in the past.
4. Arc de Triomphe: One of the most famous monuments of Paris, conveniently located at the end of Champs-Elysées. We were too freezing to go up, but you can see gorgeous views of the city and the Eiffel tower at the top.
Splurge:
If you must do a Michelin, we were really impressed with Alain Ducasse au Plaza Athénée, which recently remodeled and is a fantastic journey through vegetarian/seafood concepts.
Sweets:
Paris is one of the best places to munch on baked goods and desert. If you’re looking for macarons/delicious croissants, try Pierre Hermé or Ladurée. If you’re an gelato lover, Amorino is a must stop by!
Paris introduced to us the slow life, because who doesn’t want fresh orange juice at every corner and hearing school children laugh in French? Everything’s where it’s suppose to be. And that’s proper.
Thank you for reading our top things to do in Paris guide! xx
