“I don’t think the amount of bullshit you have to deal with in a startup is more than you’d endure in an ordinary working life. It’s probably less, in fact; it just seems like a lot because it’s compressed into a short period. So mainly what a startup buys you is time. That’s the way to think about it if you’re trying to decide whether to start one. If you’re the sort of person who would like to solve the money problem once and for all instead of working for a salary for 40 years, then a startup makes sense.” – Paul Graham, How to Start a Startup
“Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out how far one can go.” — T.S. Elliot
That first quote is from my favorite PG essay in regards to how to solve the “money problem” that shadows human existence. Trading work intensity for fortune & more time seems fair if things work out. But we kept working after the Caviar acquisition. The hunger never left. The restless need to grasp new life content itched deeper.
Fashion Mews as our second startup chapter has been such an interesting journey of what we’ve nicknamed, “creative entrepreneuring.” It brought me closer to Melis, understanding how to support & love her not just as a wife, but as co-founders. We’ve grown together.
Despite the political times in the world (2017 wasn’t our best, gang), the economic hardship, the injustice, and unexplainable mass shootings, there’s almost never a bad time to go on a personal bull run. We believe optimism is addicting. The bleeding edge is being clumsily foraged together by frontier folk who live in the ever-shifting unknown.
That’s why we’re entrepreneurs, to make our talents count for, whatever it’s worth being alive.
